The model number remain essentially the same except S (Single) D (double) Q (Quad) changes. If you buy D or Q the set is tested to make sure all bars are compatible with each other.

I already had 2 x S so I assumed I needed to buy 2 more S types. That meant another $9 postage and also meant that even though they left the warehouse at the same time travelling time was different. One showed up 2 days after the first.

So don't be like me, know that S D Q is the same RAM (optimised when Double or Quad bars) buy the D's and save yourself Postage and time.

G.Skill; the brand itself should be sufficient to make a purchasing decision.

This RAM is beautifully crafted and dressed with a sleek, solid metallic case. So sleek that you want to use it to shave your beard. :) I guess, i will use it once my current one dies... performance with a single 8gb module isn't bad either--it's actually pretty good. Better than with a 8gb + 8gb system that i have. Oh well, one with 16 and the other system with 8gb.... the world won't come to an end.

I have been wanting this RAM from so long because of its specs and heat spreader. I had an Asus P7P55D mobo earlier for which I wanted this RAM, but as I moved to a new house leaving all that stuff behind, I bought a used desktop PC, HP 6300 Pro SFF with i5 3470. Because of this RAMs heat spreader, it could not be installed in the 2 slots beneath the drive bay. But that doesn't affect the RAM rating, its the tower casings fault here. However, The RAM runs at only 1333Mhz instead of 1600MHz. Upon some investigation and testing with software tools, I figured out that the RAM can run at 1600 MHz only in XMP mode. If your motherboard, chipset and BIOS supports XMP, you can tweak it and have it run at 1600MHz I think it is similar to overclocking which I don't want to do. Hence, the RAM is running at 1333MHz now which is not what I expected. Otherwise, there is nothing special about RAM, almost all RAMs from reputed brands last the lifetime of the PC.

Pretty solid RAM if you're restricted to DDR3 like I was on my streaming computer.

I would get 2 if you can, and 100% you should go into your BIOS and activate X.M.P so you can get the advertised speed of 1600 mHz. If you do not do this step then you will not get the advertised speed. Take note. This is, however, a feature of all RAM, so I wouldn't hold it against the product whatsoever.
