Addams Family Values is a 1993 American supernatural black comedy film directed by Barry Sonnenfeld and written by Paul Rudnick, based on the characters created by Charles Addams. It is the sequel to The Addams Family (1991). The film features almost all the main cast members from the original film, including Anjelica Huston, Raul Julia, Christopher Lloyd, Christina Ricci, Carel Struycken, Jimmy Workman, and Christopher Hart. Joan Cusack, Carol Kane, and David Krumholtz joined the cast for this film.

Compared to its predecessor, which retained something of the madcap approach of the 1960s sitcom, Addams Family Values is played more for very dark and macabre laughs. The film revolves around the family's adjustments to the birth of new baby Pubert. Subplots include Fester Addams marrying Pubert's nanny Debbie Jellinsky, who is a serial killer intending to murder him for his inheritance; and teenagers Wednesday and Pugsley Addams being sent to summer camp.

The film was released by Paramount Pictures on November 19, 1993. In contrast to its predecessor's mixed reception, the film was well received by critics; however, it was a box office disappointment, with a box office gross of $111 million against a budget of $47 million. In the decades since its release, the film has been reassessed with retrospective acclaim. Once a source of mixed reception, the film's dark humor and satire has become lauded. Ricci and Cusack's performances have also received praise, with Cusack's role in particular becoming the source of several memes and tribute videos on YouTube dedicated to her performance.

ว่ากันว่าจุดเริ่มต้นที่ทำให้มีการสร้าง The Addams Family ฉบับหนังโรงก็คือตอนที่ผู้อำนวยการสร้าง Scott Rudin แกนั่งรถตู้ แล้วก็ได้ยินคนหนึ่งฮัมเพลงธีมของ Addams แล้วสักพักทุกคนบนรถพากันฮัมเพลงนี้กันหมด Rudin เลยแน่ใจว่าถ้าทำเป็นหนังล่ะดังแน่

ตอนแรกทุกคนคิดตรงกันว่าคนเหมาะจะกำกับคือ Tim Burton แต่พี่ท่านไม่ว่าง หน้าที่เลยถูกส่งไปยัง Barry Sonnenfeld ผู้กำกับภาพที่เคยร่วมงานกับพี่น้อง Coen, Danny DeVito และ Rob Reiner มานั่งเก้าอี้กำกับเป็นหนแรก

หนังเพี้ยนได้ใจ ตั้งแต่ตัวละคร มือเดินได้ ญาติอิทท์ขนดก ของประกอบฉาก บรรยากาศ อารมณ์ขัน การเดินเรื่อง ดนตรี (ที่แสนจะยั่วล้อโดย Marc Shaiman) ทั้งหมดผสมรวมเป็นความลงตัวได้สำเร็จ

จุดที่ผมนับถือคือหนังทำให้เรารู้สึกชอบพวกอดัมส์ รู้สึกว่าพวกเขาเนี่ยแหละที่ปกติ ในขณะที่ตัวละครคนปกติทั่วไปต่างหากที่ดูน่าขำทั้งแง่การกระทำและวิธีคิด (โดยเฉพาะแม่หนูเนตรนารีผมบลอนด์นั่น)

ดูแล้วก็อดคิดแซวสังคมรอบตัวไม่ได้ ว่าสิ่งที่เรายึดมั่นนิยามกันว่า "ปกติ" และ "เพี้ยน" นั้น มันใช่จริงตามนั้นไหม

ดาราในเรื่องที่ดังอยู่แล้วก็ดังขึ้นอีก อย่าง Raul Julia ผู้ล่วงลับก็เป็นที่จดจำถึงขนาดไปไหนมาไหนเด็กๆ จะเรียกเขาว่าโกเมซทุกทีไป (ได้ข่าวว่าเขายิ้มกว้างทุกครั้งที่เด็กๆ จำเขาได้น่ะครับ), Christina Ricci ก็เกิดและติดภาพเวนส์เดย์ไปหลายปีทีเดียว

เกร็ดที่น่าสนใจก็คือ จริงๆ แล้วบทดั้งเดิมจะไม่เฉลยชัดๆ ว่าตกลงแล้ว เฟสเตอร์ (Christopher Lloyd) เป็นตัวจริงหรือตัวปลอม แต่ทีมงานหลายคนโดยเฉพาะ Ricci บอกว่าถ้าให้เฟสเตอร์เป็นตัวจริงหนังจะดูลื่นและน่าประทับใจกว่า (ตอนนั้นเธออายุ 10 ขวบครับ) ในที่สุดตอนจบก็เลยสรุปออกมาอย่างในหนังนั่นเอง

อีกหนึ่งหนังดูเพลินที่ไม่ค่อยมีให้ดูบ่อยๆ (ยอมรับว่าแอบคาดหวังกับ Dark Shadows อยู่พอตัว แต่ก็ยังทำได้ไม่ถึงขนาด แม้พี่ Tim จะคุมบังเหียนเองก็ตาม ^_)

Funny as hell!

Usually I don't like horror comedies and I hate mainstream movies,but "Addams Family Values" completely cracked me up.It was so immensely enjoyable and funny as hell!Especially the first Thanksgiving Day performance,where Wednesday Addams(Christina Ricci)as a Pocahontas,and other Indians took a revenge on American colonists-I almost cried with laughter during that scene!I wonder what Americans think about it?As for Christina Ricci,she simply steals the show in this one!I'm looking forward to see this talented,young actress in more movies.The other actors are also excellent,and the film is filled with wonderful touches of black humour.Highly recommended.
